TIJ cartridge support

Thermal inkjet cartridges
matched to the job.

Aqueous and fast-dry solvent ink options selected for surface, drying, resistance, code quality and production handling.

The working heart of TIJ

Ink and print mechanism
in one consumable.

In a thermal inkjet system, the cartridge is more than an ink reservoir. It contains the precision nozzle array and droplet-generation components that create the printed image.

Cartridge choice therefore affects print performance directly. We help match formulation to the application and establish sensible storage, handling and stock practices.

Choose by performance

Start with what the
code must survive.

The fastest-drying ink is not automatically the best ink. A formulation should balance dry time, adhesion, contrast, nozzle recovery, open time, resistance and storage life for the application.

Defining the handling and exposure after printing helps narrow the choice before sample tests are run.

  • Time before contact with belts, guides or other packs
  • Required rub, water, oil or chemical resistance
  • Operating temperature, humidity and condensation
  • Human readability, barcode contrast and code size
Compatibility

Use cartridges approved for the selected printer platform. Electrical, firmware and ink compatibility must all be confirmed.

Storage and operation

Protect performance
between print runs.

Cartridges should be stored within the manufacturer’s specified conditions, kept sealed until required and rotated by date. Operators should follow an agreed start-up, wipe and shutdown routine.

Holding appropriate stock on site avoids an otherwise productive line stopping for a small consumable. Usage planning should reflect message coverage, cleaning, start-up prints and production peaks.

  • Sealed storage within specified temperature range
  • First-expiry, first-out stock rotation
  • Correct nozzle wiping materials and method
  • Spare cartridges available for critical lines
Coverage estimates

The number of prints per cartridge depends on ink coverage, message content, resolution, cleaning and rejected or test prints.

Ink considerations

Specify the consumable
as carefully as the printer.

A trial should demonstrate the characteristics that matter to the finished product and production process.

01

Dry time

Time until the mark can be handled without smearing under defined conditions.

02

Adhesion

Ability to remain attached to the finished surface through normal handling.

03

Contrast

Optical difference needed for clear text and reliable code reading.

04

Resistance

Performance against abrasion, moisture, oil, chemicals or temperature as needed.

05

Open time

Nozzle recovery after production pauses and intermittent operation.

06

Shelf life

Storage period and conditions used for reliable stock planning and rotation.

Consumable planning

Build ink supply into
the operating plan.

Usage is best forecast from real message coverage and production volumes after commissioning.

Message coveragePrinted area, density, resolution and number of passes or printheads

Frequently asked

Useful answers
before you specify.

For application-specific advice, call 01865 362785.

How many prints will one TIJ cartridge produce?+

It depends on the printed area, ink coverage, resolution, cleaning, rejected packs and cartridge capacity. A real message and production trial provide the best basis for estimating cost per print.

Should cartridges be removed when the line stops?+

Follow the cartridge and printer manufacturer’s procedure. Short pauses and long shutdowns can require different handling, capping or storage routines.

Can solvent and aqueous cartridges be swapped in one printer?+

Only if the printer platform, firmware and electrical drive support both cartridge types. The line set-up and cleaning routine may also differ. Confirm compatibility before use.

Why does the print need wiping after a pause?+

Ink or contamination can partially block nozzle openings during idle periods. A correct, gentle wipe can restore the nozzle plate without damaging it; the approved method and material matter.
